Counseling
Advisor System
Each college-level class is assigned a class advisor. The advisor help students solve life, academic, and job search difficulties. For students, the class advisor arranges individual counseling, class meeting, meal gathering, phone counseling, emails, and group counseling sessions to know more about students’ live and their study challenges so the advisor can provide further advice and assistance.
Learning Resources and Learning Assistance
1. Cross-disciplinary Programs (Non-degree): The programs integrate courses from different departments to prepare students to meet the needs of the industry and equip them with cross-disciplinary knowledge and build competitive assets.
2. Career Exploration: Elite graduates from each department are invited to share valuable experience with freshmen in their professional field to help students explore their future development.
3. Learning Assistance:
(a) Lab classes and problem/solution tutoring sessions are provided for the College required foundation courses including Accounting, Statistics, Calculus, and Economics.
(b) Additional on-line self-learning materials with instruction videos are provided for students to self-study Economics, Statistics, and Calculus.
(c) SPSS and SAS tutoring sessions are provided for students to learn the systems more efficiently and successfully.
(d) Study Area with 6 compartments for group discussions is arranged in the room JS106 of the Fahy Library.
(e) With the resources from the Office of Student Affairs, freshman students are assisted to explore themselves to develop multi-intelligence and autonomous learning ability.
Placement Services
The university is a place to cultivate talents; the professors are the leaders to cultivate sharp minds; and the alumni are the boosters to guide the students to meet the needs of the industry. To strengthen the placement services, a series of activities are designed to facilitate students for development and career exploration. The students are therefore able to transform smoothly from the academic environment to the job market.
(a) Freshman students start to use CVHS system and accept career development training in their sophomore year.
(b) Students can participate in the annual experience sharing sessions from their department graduates. They can also join dozens of expert lectures and job placement workshops.
(c) Corporate visits are held in every semester to encourage students to get familiar with different sectors in the industry. The in-depth visits allow students to know deep in the actual operations and bring valuable learning experience that is different from the regular school education.
(d) Resume preparation is arranged in the Professional Ethics course for junior and senior students. Career development lectures are given by senior executives from the industry to introduce techniques for preparing an appealing resume. The workshops make sure every student in the College of Management can prepare a strong resume.
(e) One-on-one Job Placement Counseling: Senior elite graduates from each department are invited to conduct one-on-one job placement counseling sessions and give students spot-on advice.
(f) Graduates from 5 departments form a counseling network. Evening and weekend masters’ program students also provide job opportunities and collaboration after new graduates start to work.
Student Activities
Every year, each student association from different departments holds a freshman camp, new student seminars, a freshman welcome party, a freshman prom, basketball games, volleyball games, softball games, study groups, graduation party, department-wide family gathering, movie appreciation, and karaoke nights. Also, the student associations hold camps for senior high school students so students can experience college life and know more about each department.
